  • Hon'ble Governor of Kerala Shri Justice(Retd) P Sathasivam said that Nehru Trophy Boat Race which is conducted every year in memory of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru had already attained global attention

  • This year's Nehru Trophy Boat Race gives a great message to the world. that Kerala has survived the tragedy that had never been occured before. Alappuzha had also came out of that. This Boat Race is a symbol of communal and social equality.

  • Hon’ble Finance Minister Dr.TM Thomas Isaac, who presided over the function, said that the Government has been trying to get the World Heritage Tag from UNESCO for Snake Boat of Kerala and UNESCO had agreed all support for this. The Minister said that infrastructure development of 1500 crore would be started in Alappuzha town by the next event.

  • 2086 Police personnel have been deployed under the leadership of the District Police Chief and Intelligence DIG Sh. S Surendran IPS.
  • The whole area had been divided into Town Area and Punnamada area and further the Punnamada area had been divided into 15 sectors under 15 DYSPs.
  • Special Police Force for the security of Women and Children, Special arrangements for Senior Citizens and differently abled, Separate Team for the security of Domestic and Foreign Tourists, Control Rooms in all pavillions for CCTV Monitoring , Commandoes for VIP security, Bomb Squad, Dog Squad, Shadow Police, Intelligence and 200 Police officers from Special Branch have been deployed for the Boat Race.
  • Police force have been deployed in 30 boats also in Punnamada lake.
  • Barricades would be erected at the North of ‘Dock Chira’ so that only race boats are allowed to pass through. Barricades would also be erected in both banks of the race course.
  • Police force would be deployed here to avoid unnecessary interference of viewers in the starting point and race course.Disobedience from the part of participants will attract stringent actions from NTBRS like making them ineligible for bonus and other benefits and banning them from the race.Video Camera have been set up for identifying such persons. People who tries to disturb the race in the race course would be arrested and legal actions would be initiated.
  • Only Pass/Ticket holders would be allowed to enter the pavillions from 6 AM.
  • Legal actions would be initiated against tress passers and boats who bring and off load such visitors to Nehru Pavillions. The executives and officers are requested not to bring anybody alogwith them without pass. Once the pass holders go out from the pavillions they won’t be let in later.
  • Unauthorized sale of tickets is a punishable offence. Only official boats and speed boats would be allowed in the race course after 8 Am.
  • If any other boats including country boats are found in the Race Course, those boats would be confiscated and the permit and driver’s licence would be recommended for suspension for three years.
  • Swimming through the race course is prohibitted.
  • Announcements and Advertisements are banned after 8 Am in the tracks and surrounding places.
  • Use of Mic sets is also banned and if used by any boat, those would be confiscated alongwith mic sets and legal actions would be initiated and Dirver’s licence would be recommended for suspension.
  • The viewers are requested reach and occupy their seats before 10 Am.
  • The viewers and others are requested not to throw plastic bottles and other items to the lake.
  • Shadow police have been deployed to raid the use of liqour in open. Actions would be taken against the people who carry liqour bottles in open, drink liqour in open and causing nuisance to public after drinking liqour.
  • Boat Service is banned from DTPC to Punnamada lake and from Punnamada to DTPC Jetty after 10 AM.

  • Traffic Control in town from 9:00 AM  due to Nehru Trophy Boat Race
  • Parking on roads is prohibited from 6:00 AM .  Vehicles parked on road side  will be towed away and the vehicle owner will be fined.
  • Road Traffic is prohibited from 7:00 AM to  7:00 PM from North of District Court junction to East of Thathampally Lake Kurishady Junction
  • No other vehicles than KSRTC will be  allowed from control room to East of Fire Force office.
  • Nehru Trophy Boat Race parking area for Vehicles :
    • Vehicles from North via Thanneermukkam road – SDV School Ground
    • Vehicles via NH from Ernakulam route – SDV School Ground via Kommady
    • Vehicles via Changanassery and Kaithavana – Carmel School Ground and St. Antony’s School Ground.
    • Heavy containers should not enter town area from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM
    • Heavy containers from northern side should be parked at Kalarcode Bypass and heavy containers from southern side should be parked at Kommady Bypass
  • Passenger boats from Dept. of Water transport have been arranged for those who are returning from Nehru Trophy Boat Race venue.
  • A total of 7 ambulances are arranged in various places such as Punnamada Starting Point, Finishing Point, Matha Jetty, Rajiv Jetty, Shavakkotta palam and Police Control Room in case of emergency.

  • It has been decided in the executive committee meeting to hike the price money for top 10 race boats. This is to compensate the heavy loss caused by the change in boat race schedule due to flood – said Minister Dr.Thomas Issac.
  • The boat race is aimed for tourism promotion.
  • 81 race boats are participating for the first time in the history of Boat Race 1. Chundan boats – 20 2. Chundan Exhibition – 5 3. Others – 56
  • The executive committee meeting under the presence of Minister TM Thomas Issac evaluated the boat race preparations. It is expected to complete the work of gallery, pavilion and track by November 4th.
  • Boat race results will be more accurate with the use of advanced technology.
  • Mechanical device will be used at front and system for simultaneous starting will be used at the back side.
  • The finishing time can be precisely recorded with the help of the linux camera which can take 1000 photographs per second. Digital timing is this time’s speciality.

• NTBR Society Executive Committee decided in the meeting to postpone Boat Race for one week due to heavy monsoon.
• The new date will be confirmed for the any date in between 18th and 21st of this month considering the convenience of the Chief Guest Sh. Sachin Tendulkar.
• Tickets charges will be refunded, if required.
• The same tickets are permitted to use for watching the boat race on the postponed date.
• The competition will be strictly disciplined as Champion's league will be starting this year.
• Financial assistance grant for the rehearsals of the boat will be considered.
• The condition which only 25 percent of the rowers should be from other states will be strictly followed.
• ID cards with hologram will be given to the rowers.
• There will be video surveillance.

As a precautionary measure,66th Nehru Trophy Boat Race stands postponed in view of the incessant rains resulting in opening of dams in the state. New date will be announced soon.

As part of implementing professionalism in Boat Race, volunteers in 5 colored jerseys are appointed. Training stared on 5/08/2018 The NCC and NSS cadets from various colleges will be the volunteers. Volunteers will be entrusted to assist Women/Children, Senior Citizens and to monitor Green Protocol. Jerseys of different colors are also distributed among volunteers. Dress rehearsals are planned on Thursdays and Fridays. It is first time in the history of boat race that so many activities are well planned and executed.

KSRTC will conduct more bus services in the district on the day of Boat Race to Changanassery, Cherthala,Vaikom, Kottayam, Ambalappuzha, Harippad and Kayamkulam. The afternoon local service buses will be facilitated for this. Water transport will conduct more than 5 boat services with the escort of police and revenue officials. Department's 4 ambulances will be on service. Special consideration will be given to the differently abled.

Medical team is fully prepared with all necessary facilities including ICU Ambulance. The service of the medical team will be available at Starting Point, Finishing Point, in the lake and land areas. Life guards and water ambulance will be there with the team.

The team will be in groups of five each. 10 life guards of District Promotion Council will also be ready for the service

Pavilion works will be completed by 7th of August. The work is on progress throughout day and night. Sh. V R Krishna Teja, Secretary NTBRS & Sub Collector is checking the work progress even at night time. The Society is seriously considering the loss caused by house boats on the previous days at the work site. Special permission should be taken for parking house boats near boat jetty.

2000 police officers will be appointed for ensuring security in Boat Race. Special squad has been appointed in Pavilion and other places. The squad will be divided into groups of 15. Police will help revenue officials to verify the pass at the entrance of each pavilion. The main objective is to provide strict security throughout the event.

Boat race trial started at Punnamada. Thousands of people gathers at the clubs to witness the rowing practice. A lot of comes in small boats to encourage the rowers.

66th Nehru Trophy Boat Race's Captain's meeting to be conducted today(July 31st) at 10 AM in the YMCA hall. The terms and conditions of this year's boat race will be given at the meeting. The irrigation executive engineer has informed that it is mandatory for the captains and leading captains of all the registered boats to be present at the meeting.

As a part of special arrangements for the 66th Nehru Trophy Boat Race, Sh. V. R Krishna Teja, Secretary NTBRS & Sub Collector inaugurated the special reserved ticket for senior citizens by handing over it to Sh. Ravi Palathinkal, President Agri Horticulture. Sh. Shanthanu Pradeep, ASAP District Program Manager was present. Special seating arrangements for the Senior Citizens to conviniently watch the boat race and volunteer help are arranged by the District Authority with the assistance of Additional Skill Acquisition Program, Education Department.There will be 10% discount on tickets worth Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 600/- for senior citizens

The organizers are preparing to make this year's Nehru Trophy Boat Professional. As the boat league also begins, a number of innovative ideas are being implemented in the way rowers, viewers and organizers can benefit. The aim is to make the boat race day memorable for women, children and adults.

Until now, it was a challenge to watch boat race with family and old aged. But this time many inconveniences including this will be solved. There will be volunters in various colored jerseys at service any time. Sh. TM Thomas Issac released the pamphlet prepared by Sh. V.R Krishna Teja, Secretary NTBRS & Sub Collector Alappuzha on this by handing over it to Sh. S. Suhas, District Collector Alappuzha.

The volunteers will be seen in green, yellow, red , blue and black colored jerseys. The green volunteer boats will be involved in activities related to green protocol. Yellow volunteers take care of children and women. Red volunteers will serve senior citizens. Blue volunteers will take care of the differently abled. The black volunteers will help everyone. The staffs of various departments are being trained for this purpose.

Special facilities will be provided to each gallery for children and women. Separate seating arrangements will be provided along with snacks for senior citizens. Seperate ramps will be arranged for the differently- abled in every gallery. As the first step of the boat league, the professionalism in Punnamada will be extended to other places as well.


The painting competitions organized by Nehru Trophy Publicity Committee as part of NTBR will be held today(August 3) at 9:30 AM at Municipal Town Hall, Alappuzha. The program will be inaugurated by the District Collector Sh. S Suhas by sketching an image. The different Sub Committee Conveners including Municipal Chairman Sh.Thomas Joseph, ADM Sh.M K.Kabir, RDO Sh.S. Muralidharan Pillai, District Information Officer Sh.Chandrahasan Vaduthala, Irrigation Executive Engineer Smt.R.Rekha and District Informatics Officer Smt.P.Parvathi Devi will attend the function.

The coloring competitions will be held for Nursery-L.P. School students and the painting competitions for U.P.-High School students .The students can use Color pencil , Crayon, Oil pastals,Water Color or Poster color. Certificates and Trophies will be awarded to First, Second and Third Prize Winners in all categories.

The Nursery-L.P. School students in the district can participate in the coloring competitions .The sketch for coloring competition will be provided by the organizers. All other required materials have to be brought by the participants. The time duration is 1 hour.

The U.P-High School students can participate in the painting competition. Paper for the competition will be provided by the organizers. Students should bring all other requisite materials.Time duration for the painting competition is 2 hours. Trophies will be awarded to three schools with maximum participation. The students are required to bring identity proof/identity card issued by the School authorities for collecting the prize.


The last date of registration of boats for this year’s Nehru Trophy Boat Race has been extended till today (28th July) evening. “The date has been extended for giving small boats an opportunity, who couldn’t register so far”, said Dr. TM Thomas Isaac, Finance Minister. The District Collector and Sub Collector have been given the charge to discuss on the matters raised by small boat owners. The necessary actions related to boat league which is starting in relation with Nehru Trophy Boat Race is in its final stage, the Minister added.He was speaking at the NTBR Society Executive Committee Meeting.

The Boat league will start with Nehur Trophy Boat Race in Alappuzha, continues with other 13 boat races and will end with President’s Trophy Boat Race at Kollam. Nine boats that perform best in Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be given opportunity at other leagues. It has been planned to seed 3 boats directly to the league from next year onwards. The name ‘Kerala Boat League’ may be changed to make boats from other states also participate in the league. “The league will provide many opportunities to small boats” the Minister added.

Four stage secure starting arrangements have been arranged for this year’s boat race. The final examination for this will be held at 8th of August. The faultless starting system will be in place, even if the automatic system doesn’t work. The Irrigation Executive Engineer said that the arrangements have been done to avoid loss of time. Decisions have been made in the meeting to increase the bonus and grants by 10 % for the boats from the last year’s.

Sh. V R Krishna Teja, Sub Collector & Secretary , Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society has informed that this year’s boat race will be fully insured. The discussions have been made with United India Insurance Co. for this purpose. The insurance will cover everything related to boat race from rowers, spectators, galleries etc. The Secretary also informed in the meeting that six fake online tickets booking sites have been blocked and legal actions have been initiated. He also said that a grant of Rs. 25 lakhs have been sanctioned from Department of Tourism, Govt. of India.

Captains' meeting as part of the 66th NehruTrophy Boat Race will be held on July 31st from 10.00 AM onwards at Punnapra-Vayalar Memorial Hall, Near District Court Bridge, Alappuzha. The Terms & Conditions on the boat race will be introduced to all the teams in the meeting. All the captains and leading captains of Chundan Boats and other race boats who have registered for this year’s Nehru Trophy Boat Race should mandatorily participate in the meeting. Famous Cine star Saranya Anand will release the Mascot for the 66th Nehru Trophy Boat Race, tomorrow at 11. 30 AM at Collectorate Conference Hall. Shri.G. Venugopal, District Panchayat President, Shri. Thomas Joseph, Muncipal Chairman, Shri. V.R. Krishna Teja, Sub Collector and NTBR Society Secretary will be present at the function. Sharanya Anand is a malayali who was born and brought up in Gujarat. She came into the film industry through modelling. She has acted in the films Achayans, Chunks, Cappuccino, Akashamittayi, Chanakyathanthram etc. She is the lead actress in the soon to be released movies called Thanaha and Laughing Appartment in Giri Nagar

District Collector Sh.S Suhas IAS had inaugurated Publicity Committee Office of Nehru Trophy Boat Race – 2018. The earlier ‘Sutharya Keralam’ office in the Collectorate is used as the present Publicity Committee Office-NTBR 2018. The District Collector had offered all the support for this year’s activities of the Committee Office.

The Sub Collector and Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society Secretary Shri. V.R Krishna Teja has informed that the Nehru Trophy tickets are available at maximum number of places in the district. The ticket is available through various Government offices in the district and DTPC, Alappuzha. The ticket distribution has started through Collectorates DTPCs , Commercial Taxes and RDO offices of Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Malappuram.

Hologram sealed tickets designed by CDIT are released to avoid illegal sale of Nehru Trophy Boat Race tickets. The tickets will be available in all government offices from first week of July. Head of the offices are allowed to sell only hologram sealed tickets. The ticket buyers should check for the hologram seal. Hon'ble Finance Minister Dr.Thomas Issac during his presidential address in the Nehru Trophy Administrative Committee meeting held at Collectorate Conference Hall had directed the irrigation department which is one of the chief organizers of Nehru Trophy Boat race, to set up the starting system for Nehru Trophy Boat Race within a week.

Many have come forward to set up the new system. Rishikesh from Muhamma would give a demonstration of the system tomorrow. Inorder to avoid delays in this regard, it is suggested to maintain the irrigation department's traditional system fault less.

A temporary VIP gallery would be constructed for the chief guests including Sri. Sachin Tendulkar. Chief Minister and Union Minister Alphonse Kannanthanam would also be invited. Chief Minister would inaugurate the Kerala Boat Race League. Additional facilities would be arranged in the existing VIP gallery and special facilities for Ticket holders.

It had been requested to prohibit the movement of house boats in the race course during the boat race season to facilitate hassle free boat race, for which Sri S. Suhas, District Collector and Chairman ,NTBR Society replied that a decision would be taken soon in this regard. Sri Krishna Teja,NTBR Secretary and Subcollector informed that two websites which was found to sell unauthorised tickets of Boat Race had been blocked and case was registered against them and he also said that to avoid this, the hologram sealed tickets will be distributed this time.


To prevent unauthorized sale of tickets for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race on August 11th , specially designed tickets with hologram designed by CDIT have been set up for sale. Tickets would be available from 1st week of July. Sub-Collector Alappuzha & NTBR Secretary said that all the ticket buyers should check for the hologram in the ticket.

The online ticket sale will be strictly monitored for the Nehru Trophy Boat Race which will be conducted on 11th of August. Sub Collector cum NTBR Society Secretary has assigned District Informatics Officer & IT Support Committee Convener, NTBR to monitor and report any unauthorized online ticket sale.

A budget of Rs. 2, 43,78000/- is prepared for the 66th Nehru Trophy Boat Race. The budget presented in the general body states more revenue is expected through sponsorship. The state government has already allotted Rs 1 crore. Gross Receipts in Last year's boat race was Rs 1.96 crore. Last year's Budget suffered a loss of Rs 12,32,872. The General Body has approved this year's Budget. It has been decided to start registration of boats from 15th July to 25th July and Captain’s Clinic on 26th July.

KBL will be starting this year … Finance Minister Hon'ble Finance Minister Dr TM Thomas Isaac said during the General Body Meeting of 66th NTBR: "The specialty of this year’s Nehru Trophy Boat Race is that the selection of boats for Kerala Boat Race League[KBL] would be beginning from this NTBR. Nine best performing boats in Nehru Trophy Boat Race would be participating in various competitions under Kerala Boat race League. Kerala Boat race League would start with Nehru Trophy Boat Race and end with Kollam President's Trophy. There would not be any other selection process for KBL. Nehru Trophy Boat Race would be open to everyone. The tourism department would be managing the KBL. The Cricket legend Sh. Sachin Tendulkar had promised to attend this year’s Nehru Trophy Boat Race.” The Finance Minister told in the General Body Meeting that all facilities would be provided to premium spectators of the boat race. There would be online ticket booking facilities. The General Body meeting had decided to implement for the first time, the electronic photo finish device to ensure the accuracy in finishing time. The Committee is considering photo start to monitor the starting. The Minister had instructed to formulate the code of conduct to ensure discipline in the track to eliminate the mistakes during the starting. The General Body meeting had also decided to appoint a sub-committee to formulate rules. The Finance Minister also said that the State Government had already sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the Boat Race. The Nehru Trophy Boat Race woul be conducted by observing the Green protocol for the first time led by the Alappuzha Municipality. Application invited for 66th Nehru Trophy Title Sponsorship. The boat race has above one lakh direct spectators and worldwide TV viewership. The applications for title sponsorship have to be submitted on or before 30th June, 4PM at RDO office, Alappuzha. The decision of Nehru Trophy Executive Committee will be final as informed by Sub Collector cum NTBR Society Secretary.
